Start Here. Where am I supposed to get information on breastfeeding?
Good question! Years ago, breastfeeding was really the only way to feed an infant. Your mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and neighbor all may have had the knowledge to help you through early, common breastfeeding problems. You would have grown up seeing people breastfeed. You would probably know a whole lot more about breastfeeding if the year was 1875 instead of 2025, but here we are in 2025 in a culture that doesn’t always aim to support women’s ability to breastfeed. In an age of formula company sponsorships, lobbying, and influencer culture, how are you, a new mom, supposed to get the help and unbiased information you need?
Luckily, you’re here! If you need information before having your baby, I hope you are setting up a prenatal breastfeeding appointment with a local IBCLC. If you find yourself googling after baby is born, I would love to offer you some evidence-based sources that aren’t trying to sell you something. If after reading the information presented you still find yourself worried, please reach out! No question is insignificant, and I hope you can feed your baby with confidence.
I like to send new mothers to the following resources for breastfeeding information:
KellyMom (this site is no longer being updated, and some information is out of date).
